Meet Janet and Elizabeth:
The Dynamic Team Behind BBNYC

We bring years of experience as publishing experts–and as authors ourselves– to the experience that is Book Breakthrough. We’ve seen firsthand the obstacles along the road to publishing success. We’ve learned the core principles that are necessary for true impact and results. We know how to make things work for your idea, your book, and your business!

Janet is a highly respected publishing and strategy consultant with over 25 years of executive editorial experience at three of the largest New York City publishing houses — Viking Penguin, Broadway Books, and HarperCollins—where she acquired, developed, and helped launch the work of a long list of best-selling authors including David Allen, Harriet Lerner, Barbara Kingsolver, Wayne Dyer, and the Dalai Lama. The Wall Street Journal quoted her work as, “a perfect balance of editorial acumen and marketing savvy.”

Nationally known for her ability to help authors and clients develop, launch, and build idea-driven careers that last, today Janet works with writers, experts, and nonprofits to launch their messages to the widest possible audiences in such fields as business, psychology, women’s issues, parenting, education, health, social issues, spirituality, and fiction.

A frequent speaker on publishing, thought-leadership strategies, and the art of developing great ideas, Janet is the former director of the NYU Summer Publishing Institute and has presented multiple times at the University of Michigan, San Miguel de Allende Writers Conference, the American Society of Journalists and Authors, the Wealthy Thought Leader conference, and many other venues.

A writer herself, she is the co-author of It’s Not About the Coffee (with former Starbucks president Howard Behar), which has been published in 8 countries. As a side note, Janet was born on the East Coast, grew up in SoCal, studied at Barnard College in NYC, and blends the heart, mind, and soul of her bi-coastal roots. She is also a former ballet dancer and a current soccer player.

Elizabeth Marshall brings her experience working directly with messengers and authors to market their books in innovative ways that produce significant sales and impact — while also promoting bestselling authors through her AuthorTeleseminars.com brand.

When you ask Elizabeth about the secret to spreading your message and selling books, she’ll tell you it all comes back to one thing: relationships. Which is no surprise when you look at how she’s grown her own business and brand.
Whether it’s hosting virtual book tour events for bestselling authors, such as Dan Pink, Seth Godin, Carol Roth, Michael Port and Les McKeown, through her AuthorTeleseminars.com series or designing creative marketing campaigns for up-and-coming thought leaders, she draws on the deep connections she’s made over the years to make it all happen.

As a result of her relationship with Michael Port, she co-authored The Contrarian Effect, which was named the #9 Best Business Book of 2008 by the Amazon.com Editorial Board and the Best Business Book for 2008 in the sales category by 1-800-CEO-READ.

Beyond books, Elizabeth is also an inspiring and entertaining speaker, who has been regularly invited to share her expertise on making a lasting impact with your message at workshops and events, such as the Wealthy Thought Leader.

As a trained coach with professional sales and recruiting experience and former classically trained musician, she brings a unique blend of creativity, innovative strategies and practical wisdom to her work.

Elizabeth holds degrees in music and religion from Baylor University and Yale University. When she’s not working with clients, she enjoys practicing yoga, watching NBA games and hanging out with Barkley, her Australian Shepherd.
